Opale has dropped some hot new products and we have all the juicy details!
First up is the new pilot – Mike XL with Harness. Mike XL is available in both backpack and paraglider/auxiliary motor versions.
Mike XL is a user-friendly, high quality pilot, and is the result of a year-long development partnership with experienced pilots and valued customers. In an effort to provide a higher level of quality controlled manufacturing, 80% of the parts are now manufactured in-house by Opale Paramodel. Thanks to its long list of possibilities, you are free to configure your pilot according to your needs.
With the addition of Mike XL pilot, comes the XL2 Backpack.
Backpack XL2 is designed to fly extra large 3.5m – 4.5m wings. It features an hyper-realistically designed frame to protect your flying equipment, pilot, harness, cameras or anything else that you choose to carry. The risers attach to a separate arm that bolts to the main frame for extra rigidity and has multiple riser locations for setting up CG no matter what equipment is on board. The XL2 also features a robust steel prop ring sure to last through years of landings. Unique hold-down tabs are also incorporated into the backpack to secure your pilot and harness while in flight.
Next on the list of amazing new Opale Paramodels products is the Ultra 3.5/5.25m Aerobatic Ultra High Performance Wing.
The “Ultra” range of wings marks a new step in the development of high performance wings for remote controlled paragliders. Thanks to the success of the Ace and Split, we have decided to adapt this concept for “High Aspect Ratio” wings. A high ratio wing, or more commonly “Razor Blade”, provides much more performance than a classic low/moderate ratio wing. Generally, the disadvantages of an extended wing are the difficulty of inflating and low passive safety. With our technology, the Ultra is the only high ratio wing strategically equipped with “Split” type cells. This combination provides a smooth takeoff, even without wind, but also an unbeatable level of passive safety for this category. To summarize this type of technology, you have the benefits of a single surface profile at takeoff, without the drag, with the performance of a double surface wing in flight.
The Dual Input Servo Channel Expander EX5 is an intelligent bus manager compatible with several radio control systems. The device converts serial bus signal from up to two receivers to either standard PWM servo outputs, or configurable bus outputs. It offers up to five configurable and high-power servo ports with optional period and fail-safe setting.
The EX5 is a perfect choice for models with complex wing or tail mechanics where multiple servos may be connected to a primary receiver/receivers using just a single cable. Specifications and Features – Supported Protocols: Jeti EX, Multiplex M-LINK, Graupner HoTT, Futaba S.Bus/S.Bus2 – Over and under-voltage protection, overtemperature protection, motor-stall protection – Real-time telemetry data stream and min/max value data logging – Configurable current limiter, safety shutdown when the throttle impulse is lost – Configurable acceleration, timing, electromagnetic brake, prop positioning – Firmware updates via USB interface
Active Freewheeling (Active Motor Breaking) Brand new feature of the speed controller that reduces heat generated by the ESC during partial load operation. This mode is useful for 3D extreme and F3A precision aerobatic pilots who want not only fast acceleration, but also rapid deceleration. The motor follows throttle stick input in both ways and the pilot feels more completely in control.
Current Limiter (Active Power Monitoring) The current limiter is a part of safety controller features. It does not stop the motor but rather continuously monitors the immediate current consumption and adjusts the motor power. You can enable this feature, specify the maximum allowed current and the ESC will reduce the motor power immediately as soon as the current threshold is exceeded. After the current returns back to the safe level, the motor power is restored.
Propeller Positioning (Hall Effect Magnetic Sensor) The positioning feature allows moving the motor/propeller to the exact position required for safe landing, or which is just comfortable for further flying. With just a few external components (Hall-sensor and a small magnet) you can enable this feature and prevent the risk of damaging your propeller during landing or (Scale Sailplane) motor pod/folding prop retraction. The magnet needs to be properly fixed to the rotating part (either motor or the propeller), and the Hall-sensor has to be located in the fuselage, so that the magnet matches the Hall-sensor at the target propeller position. After enabling the positioning feature in the menu, set also the positioning PWM, so that the motor spins slowly but smoothly.
Originally built in 2004 by Schempp-Hirth, the Discus 2c was produced to replace the previously successful Discus sailplane in the Standard Racing Class. A completely new wing has been designed in close cooperation with Dr. Karl-Heinz Horstmann (wing geometry, profile) and Professor Mark Maughmer (new type of winglet). To date, around 500 of the full-scale gliders have been produced. The fiberglass fuselage is finished flawlessly in white gel-coat. Both the rudder and horizontal stabilizer with elevator are fully hollow molded. The canopy is pre-hinged in a fiberglass frame and comes complete with a scale-like latch and vent. The cockpit is complete with instrument dashboard and fiberglass seat, just like the actual plane. Retractable landing gear with working doors is also installed. A tow release is installed in the nose. The wing and fuselage both have pre-installed wiring harnesses that also include multi-pin connectors for fast, trouble-free setup at the field. The wing is finished beautifully and ready for your aileron and spoiler servos. The only “building” left to do on the wing is to attach the fully molded winglets. The foam core obecchi sheeted wings are easily removed for transportation yet are securely held in place with Topmodel’s ingenious retention system. The spoilers are quite effective and make landing in smaller spaces very possible. While flying, the Discus 2c is predictable and shows no bad habits. The intermediate pilot will have no trouble at all. Whether you aero tow or fly from the slope, the Discus 2c is a good choice.
Special Features: – Control surfaces: Ailerons, Elevator, Rudder and Spoilers – White gel-coated, pre-painted fiberglass fuselage and tail parts – Pre-installed retractable landing gear with working doors, tail wheel and tow hook – Foam-core, obecchi-sheeted two-piece wing with fiberglass reinforcement – Removable hollow molded stabilizer for easy storage and transportation – UltraCote-covered wings with pre-installed servo wiring – Scale cockpit frame with canopy latch and dashboard – Hollow molded wingtips – Includes all necessary hardware – Decals applied, ready for final assembly
